TV Mounting, Decor Hanging and Garage Storage in Fishers: The Handyman Jobs That Keep Getting Put Off

Plenty of houses in Fishers have one. A television still sitting on a stand because nobody wanted to drill into the wall. A mirror leaning against the hallway baseboard. A garage where the bins, the bikes and the holiday boxes have taken over the space the car was supposed to have. None of these are big projects, which is exactly why they keep getting pushed to next weekend.

All three are part of the handyman home services OnCall Home Co. offers, and they cost less when they are handled in one visit. Here is what goes into each of them, what decides the price, and how to get them off the list.

TV mounting: the wall decides the work

On our TV mounting work, the price is set by the wall and the cable management, not by how long it takes. A stud wall with an outlet behind the set is straightforward. Brick, stone and a fireplace chase take more work, and the price says so before anybody arrives.

What a properly mounted TV looks like:

  • It hangs level, at the height you actually watch from, not the height that was easiest to drill.
  • The mount is rated for the weight of the set, not the next size down.
  • The mount is set into the framing, and the cables are routed rather than draped down the wall.
  • The old mount, the packaging and the dust leave with us.

Over the fireplace

Mounting above a firebox is the most requested version and the one with the most ways to go wrong. Heat, depth and getting a power and signal path through masonry all have to be solved before the bracket goes up. If that is the spot you want, say so in the first message so the quote accounts for it.

What is not part of the job

The electronics. Setting up streaming boxes, pairing a soundbar or configuring a receiver is a different service. The bracket, the wall and the wire are the job, and Cory will tell you that up front rather than charge you for time spent fumbling through a menu.

Decor hanging: heavy pieces need framing

Mirrors, large art and shelves fail the same way a cheap TV mount does: they get hung on drywall alone. The fix is the same too. Find the framing, anchor into it, and get the piece level before it goes up for good. If you have several pieces for one room or one hallway, send them together so they can be laid out as a group rather than one nail at a time.

Garage storage: anchoring is the whole job

A rack that pulls out of the drywall a year and a half later was never installed. It was hung. On our garage storage builds, shelving, overhead racks and wall mounted systems get anchored into framing, and where the framing is not where the load needs to be, blocking gets added.

  • Say what is really going on the shelves. Bins of holiday decorations and a full set of tires are different problems, and the tires need blocking, heavier anchors and often a different layout.
  • Overhead racks get sized to the real load, not the number printed on the box. That number assumes perfect framing, which almost no garage actually has.
  • If the garage is also getting finished and insulated, plan the storage before the drywall goes on, so blocking can go exactly where the weight will sit. Our garage finishing page covers that side of the project.

Why these jobs go better together

Handyman work at OnCall is priced flat by the service, not by the hour. Cory prices each service as one figure, so the amount you approve is the amount on the invoice. If something unexpected turns up behind the wall, that risk sits with the contractor rather than with you. Our page on how pricing works explains why we price this way.

When several small jobs have been building up, send them all in one message. The quote comes back itemized service by service, so you can take all of it or part of it, and doing them in one visit costs less than doing them across three. A TV, two mirrors and a garage wall of shelving is a very different afternoon than three separate appointments.

We wrote more about what to expect from flat rate handyman services in Fishers if you want the longer version.

How to get a quote without an appointment

Small jobs like these can often be priced from photos, with no appointment and no scheduling window burned on a job that takes an afternoon.

  • For a TV, send one photo of the wall straight on and one from the side. That shows the outlet position, the mantel depth and whether there is anywhere for the cable to go.
  • For decor, send a photo of each piece and the wall it is going on.
  • For garage storage, send a wide photo of the wall or ceiling area and a short list of what will be stored there.

A short description with the photos is all it takes. You can text the photos to 463-310-7750 or use our quote request form, which takes photo and video uploads.

A safety note for families

If you have young children, a TV on a stand or a tall dresser is worth securing even before anything goes on the wall. The Anchor It campaign at anchorit.gov was started in response to the rise in injuries and deaths from furniture and TV tip-overs, and it walks through how an anchoring kit attaches furniture or a TV to the wall. A wall mounted set on a properly anchored bracket takes the stand out of the equation.
